Hijacked Autonomy

Location: ECSW 1.460

Instructions: Student volunteer will escort the registered participants from the ECSW Axxess Atrium 10 minutes prior to each tour.

Description: Automation comes in many forms, most recently made popular with the idea of autonomous vehicles. However, automation is woven into our daily lives – such as regulating the temperature in Nespresso coffee machines – and in much of industry, including manufacturing and processing as well as nearly all of our critical infrastructures. In this tour, we will dive into a world in which these autonomous systems have been hijacked by attackers. We will discuss what attackers can do and how they might go about doing it. We’ll explore techniques for detecting, preventing and mitigating these attacks. You will also learn different education paths leading to a future of contributing in this area.
