Methods and Tips for Expanding Your Job Search

  • includes all the job listings from major job boards, newspapers, associations and company career pages, adding new sites every day. Use the Advanced Search option to establish search criteria (such as "electrical engineer") and save the search as an agent that will email selected jobs to you daily. Use the advanced search criteria to maximize your results.
  • Search job listings through NACElink, a national recruiting network serving the needs of colleges, employers and job candidates. To begin, click on the link and then click on Register under New Users for a new account. Once you are in the system, click on NACElink Extended Job Search, which will show a national list of intern and job openings. NaceLink also enables you to view jobs from other sources.
  • MonsterCollege provides job search agents so that jobs are emailed to you daily.
  • Identify people for informational interviews and networking activities.
  • Contacting people and asking for a job is not networking. Networking is relationship-building.
  • Create a profile on LinkedIn. Join groups that are related you your interests such as the UT Dallas alumni group or the Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering Group.
  • Facebook: Find out where other UT Dallas alumni are working.
  • Apply directly to leading companies on their job sites.
  • Develop a list of companies that hire people like you. Some companies allow you to set up a search agent on their jobs site.
  • Look for websites that provide information about a group of companies (such as professional associations or employer affinity groups).
