2021 Graduation
Congratulations, Class of Fall 2021!
The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science is pleased to announce a total of 722 graduates earned 461 bachelor’s degrees, 219 master’s degrees and 42 doctoral degrees in fall 2021.
Faculty, staff, graduates and their families began the festivities on Dec. 15, 2021, with the doctoral hooding ceremony taking place at the Activity Center, and three commencement ceremonies were held on Friday, Dec. 17, 2021. For the first time, the Jonsson School hosted the Friday events.
Dr. Stephanie G. Adams, Jonsson School dean and Lars Magnus Ericsson Chair, reminded graduates of two questions credited to Hillel, a Jewish elder, and popularized by several leaders including Presidents John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan as well as Representative John Lewis.
“If not you, then who? If not now, then when?” Adams asked. “The quote implies that a person should determine who they are and use it to change the world. Right now, the world needs the youthful engineers and computer scientists that you have become.”
She continued to encourage students, many of whom completed half of their degree programs during the COVID-19 pandemic, saying that their resilience would continue to help them as they tackle challenges in their fields.
After each commencement ceremony, family, friends and graduates gathered for refreshments, photo opportunities and giveaways during Memories on the Mall activities at the Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center.
Two student speakers delivered remarks at the ceremonies:
Renae Sedluk
BS’21 (software engineering)
Ria Ghosh
PhD’21 (computer engineering)
