Jonsson School Announces Annual
Faculty and Staff Awards
In honor of another productive academic year, Jonsson School leaders recognized faculty, staff and students for their outstanding efforts.
At the school’s annual meeting and awards ceremony in the spring, Dr. Stephanie G. Adams, dean of the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science and Lars Magnus Ericsson Chair, reminded participants of her charge to make 2024-2025 the year of balance. She recalled how practices such as deep breathing, meditation and more have helped her to stay centered and focused. Other staff and faculty said that they have started or restarted exercise programs and taken advantage of massage memberships. With a growing student population and ambitious goals ahead, balance is a must, she said.
During the 2024-2025 term, the school announced five research thrusts, prioritizing collaboration according to five strategic areas of high impact, as well as cross-cutting technologies to support the research thrusts. Interdisciplinary collaborations led to grants including a $30 million Department of Defense grant in September to create a new center for battery research. Department leaders and Dr. John Hansen, associate dean for research in the Jonsson School, professor of electrical engineering and Distinguished Chair in Telecommunications, recognized outstanding research faculty.
Teaching faculty and student teachers were also recognized for going above and beyond, both through course evaluations and through observations from their colleagues.
Additionally, the school added several new academic advisors and other staff members. Elaine Pearson, associate dean for administration, recognized staff for their efforts in streamlining processes and for excellence in their specific areas.
Following a summer to recharge, the Jonsson School will be ready to go again for the 2024/2025 academic term.
