Texas Society of Professional Engineers, Preston Trail 2023 Chapter

3 Scholarships Available!

The scholarships are awarded each year to a student who currently attends a college or university with an Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited engineering program in the Fall of 2023. Students must plan on attending a college or university in the state of Texas and must remain in the engineering program.

Available Scholarships:

  • Three (3) $3,000 one-time scholarship is available for colleges within the State of Texas.

Program Guidelines & Priorities:

  • Scholarship funds will be paid in the Fall of 2023.
  • Applicants must have the endorsement of their Guidance Counselor on their application attesting they are a qualified fit for this scholarship program. TSPE Preston Trail Chapter strongly suggests that each College or university present this opportunity to the strongest applicants that match this program’s guidelines. Application deadline is June 2nd, 2023, by 5:00 p.m CST to be received. Any application after the deadline will not be considered.

The applications will be reviewed, and recipients will be selected by a committee from TSPE Preston Trail Chapter. The scholarships will be awarded in July 2023 TSPE Board Meeting. Winning recipients will be contacted directly through the email provided in the application.

TSPE is a voluntary, non-profit organization that promotes career opportunities in engineering and provides leadership and guidance for practicing engineers. Our local chapter, which includes your area, is active in events in which local schools participate, such as Mathcounts, Career Days, Expos or Career Fairs, Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) Grants, National Engineering Design Challenge (NEDC), and various scholarships.

Last Mile Education Fund Grants

Last Mile Education Fund is offering grants specifically for biotech and related STEM degrees and certificates in 26 designated counties in North Texas, thanks to an amazing partnership with Lyda Hill Philanthropies. These grants are need-based with no strings attached (not even a GPA requirement).

Southwest Airlines ¡Lánzate! Higher Education Travel Award Program

Deadline: May 15, 2022

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Student must be enrolled in a college/university at least 200 miles from their designated home at the time they’re applying.
  • Student must be in good academic standing as determined by his or her college/university.
  • Student must have a minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Student must be 18 years old or older at time of application.
  • Recipient must be a legal U.S. resident. All federal government regulations related to air travel and Transportation Security Administration rules must be adhered to, including, but not limited to, producing a valid government issued photo ID for air travel.
  • One application per student must be submitted online by the specified deadline of May 15, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. CT. Incomplete applications and applications not submitted online will be disqualified.
    Needed travel must be to/from Southwest Airlines domestic destinations.
  • Needed travel must be to/from Southwest Airlines domestic destinations.
  • Students will be required to complete and upload an Enrollment Verification Form with their application. The Enrollment Verification Form must be signed by the college Registrar’s Office and must verify enrollment and grade point average.
  • All selected student recipients will be required to complete and sign an IRS Form W-9 with the student’s full social security number.
  • The student must identify direct or parental ties to a specific country to determine Hispanic origin on the application.

  • The student must write personal essays addressing questions as outlined in the application. The essays must be between 300 and 500 words demonstrating college level writing and grammar skills.
  • In the essays, the student should demonstrate or discuss socio-economic need such as financial need, cultural considerations, etc.
  • The essays may be written in Spanish, provided an English translation is included with the application.

Selection:

  • A selection committee comprised of national education advocates and HACU leaders will review all qualified applications and essays.
  • Students attending a HACU member institution will receive additional consideration in the individual review phase.
  • The decision of the selection committee is final.
  • The selection committee will determine the 185 students who will receive eight (8) one-way Southwest flight e-passes.
