2020 National Engineers Week

National Engineers Week was started in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers in conjunction with President George Washington’s birthday. President Washington is recognized as the first engineer in the United States, notably for his survey work.

The purpose of National Engineers Week is to celebrate engineers’ contributions to society. It also provides an opportunity for engineers to emphasize the importance of learning math, science, and technical skills among the general population. National Engineers Week is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by highlighting engineering and technology careers.

National Engineers Week promotes the importance of technical education among parents, teachers and students and inspires a high level of math, science and technology literacy. The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science proudly highlights the contributions of engineers during National Engineers Week and offers dedicated career fairs, tech talks and demonstrations of signature programs in order to share how engineering and computer science promote innovation and invite discovery.
